On their website, Shaw Farms says, “Providing the Milford-Cincinnati area with farm-fresh produce through the summer and family entertainment in the fall,” and our experience was more than these words even begin to describe. It was a magical time of year, when the morning fall air was cool and foggy. We went on a school field trip, and it was one that I know both me and my son will never forget.
Typical Day: We got their in the morning and met with my son’s preschool class over near one of the barns in the front entrance. When everyone had arrived, they lined us up and split us up into groups for their wagon hay rides pulled by large tractors. There was foggy in the air, some stray pumpkins in the field, and lots of halloween decorations hanging from trees. The kids were in awe pointing at every single large plastic spider, snoopy & peanuts wooden signs, and dangling flying witch. The tractors would criss-cross through the fields and the kids all waved while passing. The ride must have lasted a good 20 minutes.
Then we were taken to a covered barn where an employee explained to us about their farm, showed us the different kinds of pumpkins and produce, and taught the kids about harvesting through large posters and interactive questions. After this demonstration, we walked through the petting zoo area with farm animals and tons of interactive kid-sized housed, olden-day wagons, and halloween displays to jump and climb through. Finally, we ended getting to pick one pumpkin each to take home. There were all sizes from tiny to larger pumpkins to choose from. After my son choose a pumpkin, we went into their farm store and bought home-made apple butter, pumpkin butter, and candy sticks.
